How to use the gas safety renewal planner

Use the date the engineer completed the check, rather than the date you booked it or received the invoice. If the check retained an existing annual deadline, enter the previous due date as well. Check the dates against your records before making arrangements. You do not need to enter a property address or tenant details.

Why an early check can keep the same anniversary

HSE explains that an annual check can be completed within the permitted two-month period before its deadline while retaining that deadline for the next cycle. The tool checks whether your dates fit that window. If you are unsure whether the anniversary was retained, it asks you to review the records rather than choosing a date for you.

Worked example

A check completed on 10 October 2026 with a retained previous due date of 1 December 2026 produces an annual deadline of 1 December 2027. Without a retained anniversary, the ordinary annual calculation from 10 October 2026 produces 10 October 2027. These are planning examples; earlier instructions, defects and the individual circumstances still need review.

What the result does not check

An annual renewal date does not show that appliances are safe, that defects have been addressed or that tenants received their records. The planner does not cover new-appliance alignment exceptions or establish whether a particular property or installation is in scope. Use a Gas Safe registered engineer and follow any earlier action or date required by the record.

Questions about this calculator

Can I renew a gas safety check early?

There is a permitted two-month window for an annual check to retain its existing anniversary. You need the previous due date and the completed check date to use that option. A much earlier check must not automatically inherit the previous anniversary.

What if the previous due date is still in the future?

That can happen when the check was completed early. Enter the previous due date from your records; the planner checks the completed check against the retained-anniversary window.

Does a calculated date mean my property is compliant?

No. This is a date planner. Gas safety conditions, defects, maintenance and record delivery are not established by the calculation. An overdue date remains visible even if you later arrange a check.
